Days of Work - Thurs, Fri. I moved from England to Edinburgh to study medicine in 2011 and I didn't want to leave! I worked in Lothian and Fife as a junior doctor. I've been working as a GP in Penicuik since January 2024. I have additional training in contraceptive implants and joint injections. You may see me cycling to the practice or out on home visits. Alongside my clinical work, I spend 2 days a week training GPs in the wider area with a particular focus on high quality care around death. Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family, running, and being part of the leadership of my church in Edinburgh. I am looking to begin a theological degree in the near future alongside my medical work.

DR PETER WEIL

MBChB BSc MRCGP (Edinburgh 2001)

Days of work - Mon, Wed, Thurs, Fri. I qualified as a GP in 2007, after training here as a GP registrar by my esteemed colleagues Dr Carol Levstein (now retired)and Dr A Drummond Begg. Having worked in many different practices as a locum, I can happily say Penicuik is my favourite place to work, I was able to cement the relationship by coming to be a partner here in 2010. I continue the tradition of training junior doctors (FY2s) here and would view myself as a generalist happy to deal with any problem. I help design and run our chronic disease management systems, and I also offer joint injections.

GP Registrars

Fully qualified doctors with several years' hospital experience complete their training by working here as GP Registrars for one year. Fully qualified junior doctors with a minimum of six years' training also work with us for four months at a time. Their surgeries are supervised by one of the senior GPs. We video-record some consultations for teaching, assessment and for postgraduate exam requirements. You do not have to have your consultation video-recorded if you do not want to. This will not affect your care in any way. We will always ask your written consent before and after a video consultation.

Medical Students

We teach medical students from the University of Edinburgh. We ask for your consent before a student is present in your consultation. If you prefer not to have a medical student present with your doctor, please say so. We understand and respect your feelings about this and it will not affect your treatment at all if you prefer not to see a medical student. We also sometimes have other health-professional students working with us. We will ask for your consent before we allow a student to be involved in your consultation. We understand that not everyone is happy to have a student present. Please say so, if this is how you feel.
